Women’s Tennis Drops Doubles Match to Rice to Close ITA Regionals

FORT WORTH – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s women’s junior tennis Isabelle Bahr and sophomore Marjorie Souza dropped Friday’s Main Draw Round of 32 doubles match to Rice’s Federica Trevisan/Saara Orav to complete their run at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships at TCU’s Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

Bahr and Souza opened doubles competition with an 8-1 victory over Lamar’s Jayci Wong/Anna Emma Shasteen on Thursday to advance to the Main Draw Round of 32. The Vaqueros put in a good effort, but Trevisan/Orav, the 14th seeded doubles team at the regional tournament, came away with an 8-1 victory.

In their first trip to the ITA Regional Championships, Bahr and Souza both went 1-1 in singles action and finished 1-1 as a doubles team. They earned notable wins over players from Texas Tech, Prairie View A&M and Lamar while competing well against some of the top NCAA Division I players from schools across the state.

UTRGV’s fall slate continues when the full team travels to San Marcos for the Texas State Invitational Oct. 7-8.
