Women’s Golf Travels to Princeton to Take Part in Princeton Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Fresh off its first place finish at the Yale Invitational, Harvard women’s golf is set to travel to Princeton, NJ this weekend, Sept. 24-25, to compete in the Princeton Invitational.

Harvard will be joined in the tournament with players from the five other Ivy League programs, Columbia, Dartmouth, Penn, Princeton and Yale as well as players from Albany, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgetown, Holy Cross, St. John’s and Seton Hall to round out the field of 12. The course will have a par of 71 and measure 6,109 yards for the event.

What to Know

  • At the Yale Invitational, Harvard’s first event of the season, the Crimson placed first with a 54-hole total score of 4-under-par 848.

  • Harvard’s round one score at the Yale Invitational of 279 was the lowest single round score in team history. The previous low was 280 at round two of the Dartmouth Invitational in 2019.

  • Their score of 848 (-4) at the Yale Invitational was also a team record for the lowest 54 hole total score. The previous low was 883 (+19) at the Princeton Invitational last season.

  • Meiyi Yan’s score of 208 (-5) was a school record for lowest 54-hole player score and a personal best in her collegiate career. For her stellar performance, Yan was named Harvard Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by COOP.

  • Charissa Shang was recently named one of 15 first-year women golfers to watch by Golfweek.

  • Isabella Gomez will make her season debut at the Princeton Invitational

  • Harvard last won the Princeton Invitational in 2015.

  • The Crimson is led by The Paul M. Weissman ’52 Director of Harvard Golf, Fred Schernecker ’89as well as Associate Head Coach of women’s golf, Naree Song. Schernecker is in his 25th season with the program while Song is coaching for an eighth year.
