Logan Paul Is The Perfect Heel For WWE

In wrestling, there are sometimes competitors who are born to be good guys and some who are born to be bad guys. When it comes to WWE newcomer Logan Paul, he is destined to be a heel. The internet star initially came into WWE as a babyface, before the company realized that he was much better as a villain, and it went down a storm at WrestleMania 38. However, since then, he has been presented as a babyface, and whilst he has done a decent job, he would be perfect as a heel, especially in the world of WWE.

WWE Initially Rectified Their Mistake Of Introducing Logan Paul As A Babyface

It was a questionable decision when WWE brought in Logan Paul back in 2021, especially since he has a lot of bad press and controversy surrounding his career. However, there is no denying his star power and buzz, so it made sense for WWE to work alongside him. Even with the universal hatred that many have for him, Paul was presented as a good guy within the Sami Zayn vs Kevin Owens feud, as he was very indifferent and confused by Zayn’s antics.

At WrestleMania 37, even though Paul was in Zayn’s corner, it felt inevitable that he would turn on Zayn. After the bell, this happened, with Paul shoving Zayn to the mat in what was a very cliché celebrity moment. In quite a self-aware move from WWE, they had Owens give Paul a stunner to make the fans happy, as they booed anyone and every time he was on screen, so it provided the show with a good moment. Paul would return to WWE alongside Baron Corbin later in the year, and he would this time be presented as a heel, and it was immediately clear how natural he was in this role, with this further cemented in the build to WrestleMania 38.

Logan Paul Proved To Be An Incredible Heel At WrestleMania

Paul was announced as The Miz’s tag team partner ahead of a tag match against Rey & Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania, and during the build, he cut arrogant and insulting heel promos, with a natural charisma shining through in that role. When the event rolled around, he showcased himself as one of the best celebrity performers in WWE history, with a brilliant in-ring performance that displayed solid wrestling, and more importantly the ability to play up to the crowd and tell a story. It was immediately clear that if Paul wanted a future in wrestling, then he certainly had the tools for it.

The Miz and Paul picked up the victory, but in a shocking and foolish turn of events, The Miz turned on his partner after the bell, laying him out with a Skull Crushing Finale. From how both men acted, it was clear that Paul was set up as a babyface, although the crowd was cheering on what happened, with it being a brain-dead move from WWE to try and turn Paul into a good guy. This was allegedly due to the creative control that Paul has, with him wanting to be a face, likely due to his overall brand and image.

Logan Paul’s Babyface Run In WWE Isn’t Working

It was announced a few months down the line that Paul signed a WWE contract, with him battling The Miz at SummerSlam 2022. On the mic, Paul displayed some great intensity, delivered his lines with authenticity, and looked comfortable, but the audience haven’ t been won over by him as a babyface, with them not having much reason to cheer him. It is one of those instances where his role, unfortunately, feels forced, even with him trying his best.

When it comes to someone like Paul who is clearly stronger than a heel, he should really play into that. With him being an outsider to the wrestling world, he has the perfect reason for arrogance due to how naturally good he is. With an existing heat, it would be logical to further play into that and make money from it. Imagine the nuclear heat if he managed to win a title, for instance.

If WWE saw Paul as a babyface in the long run, then starting him off as a heel would have been the better move, because, with heels who are so good at what they do, fans often turn their hatred into respect for how talented they are, with this leading to natural babyface turns on occasion. If WWE ran with Paul as a heel for a while and then turned him down the line, it would likely have a better response. However, as of right now his position as a face isn’t perfect, and he would be much better suited to being a heel.
