LEGO Gives Spider-Man His Own Batcave Headquarters

Spider-Man fans can now bring home a LEGO set giving the web-slinger a headquarters much like Batman’s.

Available to purchase on LEGO’s website for $69.99 is the “Attack on the Spider-Lair” set, a Batcave-esque build that comes with six minifigures and gives Spidey a skateboard ramp, super suit display, high-tech computer, basketball hoop and even the Spider-Cycle. Similar bases for Spider-Man have been seen before, like the Spider-Lair for Peter Parker in the award-winning, animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. As for this set that arrives in time for Spider-Man’s 60th anniversary, with 466 pieces in total, it features a number of callbacks and references to the hero’s appearances in various media, as well as two of his greatest villains.

For LEGO fans that like to collect minifigures and enjoy different Spider-Man suits, “Attack on the Spider-Lair” includes figures of Spider-Man’s classic red and blue threads, Peter Parker’s homemade suit, the Iron Spider armor and Spider-Man’s stealth suits. The homemade suit appears to draw inspiration from the makeshift costume worn by Peter (Tom Holland) in Spider-Man: Homecomingalthough the Iron Spider armor is not reflective of the one that Holland’s wall crawler wears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Instead, it is the original design of the Iron Spider armor from Marvel Comics, gifted to Peter by Tony Stark during the “Civil War” event. As for the stealth suit, although the set lists the figure as “Ultimate Spider-Man,” it is clearly based on the fan-favorite “Big Time Suit” that gives Peter stealth abilities.

Spider-Man Villains Green Goblin and Venom Are Included

The last two minifigures allow LEGO fans to pit Spider-Man against either Venom, Green Goblin or both of the two at once. Green Goblin is commonly known as Spider-Man’s greatest nemesis, and has performed some of the worst crimes to impact the hero in comics, like murdering love interest Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man #121.

While Venom/Eddie Brock has been a dangerous foe for Spidey over the years, they have worked together more than once, like more than once fighting Carnage. In modern comics, the two have made amends and Eddie now behaves mainly as a hero. The minifigures for Venom and Green Goblin draw inspiration from Marvel Comics’ versions of the characters, rather than the live-action portrayals by Tom Hardy (Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage) and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man, Spider-Man No Way Home), respectively.

Spider-Man has also teamed up with Green Goblin on occasion, meaning that buyers of the set can have Spider-Man and Goblin fight Venom, Venom team-up with Spider-Man to take down Goblin and a variety of other scenarios. Other features for the set include a prison cell to lock up Spider-Man’s villains, as well as a variety of tools, so the hero can be displayed working on his classic Spider-Cycle.

Measuring over 5 in. (14 cm) high, 16 in. (41 cm) long and 6 in. (17 cm) wide, “Attack on the Spider-Lair” is now available to purchase from LEGO.
