Shakur Stevenson and Robson Conceição are facing off on Friday in a junior lightweight title bout. We’ll be updating round by round.
This fight turned on its ear a bit at Thursday’s weigh-in. Stevenson came into the 130 pound bout weighing 131.6 pounds. He was given two hours to cut weight, but instead chose to vacate his titles. The fight is still happening, but only Conceição can win the belts. Stevenson has decided to move up to the 135 pound lightweight division for his next fight, and thus would vacate the belts even if he had made weight.
Stevenson comes into the bout off a dominating performance versus Oscar Valdez in which he captured the WBC and Ring Magazine titles by unanimous decision. The 25-year-old Newark native is entering what many consider his prime and will look to close out his time in the 130 pound division with another dominant win.
Conceição (17-1, 8 KOs) is no stranger to world title fights and gets his second opportunity to steal one. His lone loss, came from Oscar Valdez back in September 2021, Conceição failing to capture the WBC super featherweight title losing by unanimous decision.
Shakur Stevenson will be headlining tonight against Robson Conceicao on ESPN at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The action starts for the main portion of the card at 10:00 pm ET.
Stevenson (18, 9 KOs) lost his WBC & WBO super featherweight titles on the scales on Thursday after weighing in at 131.6 lbs. He says he gave it his best shot to take off the 1.6 lbs, but he couldn’t do it.
As a result, the two belts will be available for Conceicao (17-1, 8 KOs) to win tonight, but not Shakur. Boxing 247 will be giving live updates & results below of tonight’s action.
Stevenson had been planning on announcing that he’ll be moving up to 135 after his fight with Conceicao, but after missing weight, he announced his plans ahead of time.
“Once you sitting in the tub and you see .4, and you’ve a whole pound left, you know right there that you can’t get to that weight,” said Shakur Stevenson to ESPN about his efforts to make weight for Thursday’s weigh-in.

“I spoke to my grandfather; I spoke to James Prince and Antonio Leonard. Everyone agreed with me. I told them, ‘I don’t think I can get to this weight. I put everything in my power.’
“They were right there with me for some of it, so they actually got to see the weight cut process. They agreed with me and told me that I shouldn’t put my health at risk trying to do something that really can’t be done.
“I know I did everything in my power to try and get to the weight. I just couldn’t. There’s nothing else,” said Shakur when asked if there was anything else he could have done to make weight. “When your body won’t create sweat.
“That’s how you’re going to lose weight with the water that comes out of you. That, I worked out. There was nothing else I could have done. I ran, I worked out, and I got in the hot tub. I did so many different things in trying to make weight. My life is more important,” said Shakur.
Shakur Stevenson vs. Robson Conceição goes down on Friday night on ESPN. In this fight the undefeated Stevenson will be staking his WBC, WBO, and The Ring super-featherweight titles against the former Olympic gold medalist from Brazil.
Stevenson comes into this fight as a huge betting favorite. Last time out he handed Oscar Valdez the first loss of his career, taking a unanimous decision to claim the WBC and The Ring titles. The 25-year-old is considered the consensus best super-featherweight on the planet.
The only loss on Conceição’s record was a decision defeat to Valdez in 2021, for the WBC title Stevenson would later win. He was the first ever Brazilian boxer to win a gold medal at the Olympics, which he did on home soil at the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro.
